Campaigns Commemorative Medal

Medalha Comemorativa das Campanhas das Forças Armadas Portuguesas

THE PORTUGUESE ARMED FORCES CAMPAIGNS COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL

Created in November, 30, 1916, by decree nr. 2870, together with the War Cross, this medal commemorated the campaigns of the armed forces outside metropolitan Portugal, mainly due to the context of the Portuguese participation in World War I.

As indicated in Article 6 of the specific regulations to this medal, published January 18, 1917, the Campaign medal was also directly linked to the Queen D. Amélia medal, which, since 1902, worked as a general service medal. All campaign bars approved for the latter could be used in the former.

The CAMPAIGNS COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL awards “the military who have served in campaign situation” (Art. 46, Regulation 2002).

REVERSE: disc with, on the upper part, a National Banner; imposed on it, the figures of a soldier of the Army, to the right, a soldier of the Air Force, in the middle, and a sailor of the Navy, to the left, standing on a pedestal; encircling, the legend «ESTE REINO É OBRA DE SOLDADOS» (This Kingdom is the Work of Soldiers”), in uppercase elzevir font; on top, the same crown mural, as on the obverse.
